INTRODUCTION
This Web site is dedicated to the men and women who built, operated and maintained the public switched telephone networks in the United States and other nations during the 19th and 20th centuries. Their stories are a vital element of telecommunications history, and should be preserved.
The work involved in creating the content for this site has just begun. In order for this effort to become truly meaningful, a significant amount of information will need to be gathered. Oral and written histories, photographs, drawings, documents and other forms of communication will need to be obtained and organized to properly tell the stories.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
This project is a completely non-paid, non-commercial undertaking. As telephone historians we are seeking to honor the careers of many generations of phone company workers and create a permanent record of their contributions to technology and society. It is our goal to make this Web site an extensive informational resource. It will be both educational and entertaining, giving the broadest possible audience an opportunity to learn about this important aspect of our history.
However, to fulfill all of these goals we need your assistance. Please send us your thoughts, comments and ideas about this project. Please also send us your stories, photographs and other valuable historical information.
Thank you. We'll look forward to hearing from you.
